THE ROUTE

NBT Super Loop route map
  1. Day 1
Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem

Climb out of Chiang Mai toward Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain, with a stop at Mae Pan Waterfall on the way up. Drop down the far side into the Mae Chaem valley for the first night, deep in rural mountain country.

  2. Day 2
Mae Chaem → Ban Rak Thai

A long mountain crossing into Mae Hong Son province, finishing at Ban Rak Thai — a Yunnanese-Chinese village tucked against the Myanmar border, known for its tea plantations, lake, and cool climate. Overnight on the lakeshore.

  3. Day 3
    Ban Rak Thai → Pai

Winding mountain roads through the Pai valley, with a stop at Tham Lot cave along the way. Arrive in Pai with the afternoon and evening free for food, cafes, and the walking street.

  4. Day 4
    Pai → Chiang Dao

Classic northern riding — continuous curves all morning, then a quieter run east to Chiang Dao, a small town beneath dramatic limestone peaks. Caves and hot springs nearby for the afternoon.

  5. Day 5
    Chiang Dao → Chiang Rai

Northeast through countryside and gentle mountain passes into Chiang Rai, the cultural heart of the far north. Overnight in town.

  6. Day 6
    Chiang Rai — Rest Day

A full day off the bike. Bike checks, laundry, recovery. Optional outings to the White, Black and Blue temples, the cafes, or short solo rides for those who can't sit still.

  7. Day 7
Chiang Rai → Phu Chi Fa

East toward the Lao border, finishing at Phu Chi Fa — a cliff-edge viewpoint overlooking Laos. Optional sunset hike on arrival, and a sunrise hike the next morning for a sea of clouds (weather permitting).

  8. Day 8
    Phu Chi Fa → Pua

Rolling mountain roads back into Nan province. Pua is a small, peaceful town surrounded by green hills — a soft landing after a big day.

  9. Day 9
    Pua → Nan

Short on the map, big on the road — some of the best mountain riding in the region. Arrive in Nan with the afternoon free to wander the old town and its temples.

  10. Day 10
Nan → Than Sawan Waterfall → Phayao

Forested back roads to Than Sawan Waterfall for a refreshing mid-ride stop, then onward to the lakeside town of Phayao. Overnight by the water.

  11. Day 11
    Phayao → Chiang Mai

A relaxed final ride via scenic secondary roads back into Chiang Mai. Tour ends at our base.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

+Do I need a motorcycle license?
Yes — valid motorcycle license from your home country and an International Driving Permit (IDP) for Thailand. Mandatory in practice for 11 days on the road.
+11 days is a lot. How much riding per day?
Usually 4–6 hours in the saddle, with a built-in rest day in Chiang Rai (Day 6) and another natural-stop afternoon in Pai. The pace is built so you arrive somewhere new every evening without feeling wrung out.
+Do I need a visa, and will I need to extend?
Most Western passports get 60 days visa-exempt on entry to Thailand — comfortably covers this tour. Check your specific passport before booking. The Super Loop stays inside Thailand, so no border runs needed.
+What about laundry and luggage?
Soft side luggage on the bike for daily essentials; you can leave a main bag with us in Chiang Mai. Most hotels offer same-day laundry, and the rest day in Chiang Rai is the natural time to catch up.
+What bike will I ride?
Mid-size adventure bikes — Honda NX500, CRF300L Rally, or similar — chosen to balance comfort over 11 days, mountain handling, and fuel range between remote villages.
+What if I want to leave early or join late?
We can sometimes accommodate partial joiners depending on group composition — talk to us before booking. The published dates are the main runs; for private groups, we can also run the Super Loop on custom dates.
+There's a rest day in Chiang Rai (Day 6) — what do people usually do?
Mostly: sleep in, do laundry, get a Thai massage. The bold ones rent a scooter and visit the White, Black, and Blue Temples on their own pace, or hit the cafés around the clock tower. Your guide gives you the rundown the night before so you can choose.
+Can you customize the tour?
Yes — group size is flexible (solo to small group), and we can adjust stops or add rest days. For private bookings we can also reshape the loop.
