THE ROUTE

Mae Hong Son Loop route map
  1. Day 1
    Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon

Roll southwest on Route 108 toward Doi Inthanon National Park. Visit the King and Queen Pagodas and Wachirathan Waterfall, with cool summit air at 2,565 m. Overnight near the park.

  2. Day 2
Doi Inthanon → Mae Hong Son

Continue northwest on Route 108, with a stop in Ban Rak Thai — a Yunnanese-Chinese village near the Myanmar border. Arrive in Mae Hong Son for the Shan-style temples of Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu. Overnight in Mae Hong Son.

  3. Day 3
    Mae Hong Son → Pai

Run east on Route 1095 toward Pai, with a stop at the WWII Memorial Bridge along the way. Afternoon and evening free for Pai's walking street, the canyon, and the hot springs. Overnight in Pai.

  4. Day 4
    Pai → Chiang Mai

Visit Mae Ya Waterfall, then descend southeast along the Pai Highway through forested viewpoints and rolling vistas back to Chiang Mai. Tour ends at our base by late afternoon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

+Do I need a motorcycle license?
Yes — a valid motorcycle license from your home country, plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). For multi-day tours we strongly recommend the IDP — police checkpoints on Route 108 and 1095 do ask.
+Beginner-friendly over 4 days — is that real?
Real. We rate it beginner-friendly because the surfaces are paved the whole way, the daily distance is moderate, and you ride your own pace behind a guide. Most riders are first-time visitors to Thailand. The curves are famous, not technical.
+What bike will I ride?
For multi-day mountain tours we run mid-size adventure bikes (Honda NX500, CRF300L Rally, similar) — light enough for the curves, strong enough for full luggage and a passenger. Matched to your size and experience when you book.
+Where do we stay each night?
Comfortable mid-range hotels and lodges in or near Doi Inthanon, Mae Hong Son town, and Pai. Hot shower, real bed, breakfast included. All accommodation is in the tour price.
+What's Ban Rak Thai actually like?
A Yunnanese-Chinese village set against the Myanmar border, founded decades ago by Kuomintang refugees and still feels like a piece of southern China dropped into Thailand. Tea plantations on the hillsides, a small lake at the centre, traditional Chinese architecture, and cool mountain air. We overnight close by — Chinese tea for breakfast included.
+What if the weather turns?
We monitor it daily. Mae Hong Son weather in cool/dry season (Nov–Feb) is reliable. In green season (Jun–Oct), we may flip a day's order to dodge afternoon storms — itinerary is flexible.
+What's your cancellation policy?
20% deposit reserves your spot. Fully refundable up to 21 days before departure. After that, we hold the deposit but can rebook you on another date in the same season.
+Can you customize the itinerary?
Yes — group size is flexible (solo through to larger parties) and we can swap, extend, or compress stops to fit your schedule and interests. Talk to us when you book.
