An easy 109 km east of Chiang Mai that ends 1,300 m up, in cloud. Mae Kampong is a tea and coffee village built along a stream, where the houses are wooden, the waterfall runs through the middle of town, and the café terraces hang out over a valley that fills with mist most mornings. The road there is gentle enough for a first-timer on a scooter and pretty enough that you'll stop more than you planned.

  1. Morning
    Chiang Mai → Mae On → Mae Kampong village

    Depart from our base with a safety briefing, then east on quiet country roads through San Kamphaeng and out into farmland. Optional stop at Muang On Cave, up its staircase in the limestone, before the road tips upward and the temperature drops. The last stretch climbs in tight curves under the trees into Mae Kampong, where we wander the village and its market before lunch.

  2. Afternoon
    Mae Kampong Waterfall → Kew Fin → Chiang Mai

    A short walk from lunch to Mae Kampong Waterfall, which drops through the village in tiers. Then coffee on a terrace hanging over the valley — the same hills the beans came from. Optional run up to the Kew Fin viewpoint above the village, or a zipline through the canopy for anyone who wants it, before we loop home on back roads through the rice country. Back at base by late afternoon.

Yes. The roads east to Mae Kampong are paved, the climbs are gentle, and the pace is yours. We've taken complete first-time riders up and back without trouble. Full safety briefing before departure.
+What makes Mae Kampong worth the ride?
It's a small mountain village with a community-tourism model that actually works — local families run the homestays, the tea plantation, and the cafés. Walking trails to the waterfall, lookouts over a mist-filled valley, and the kind of slow rhythm that makes you stop looking at your phone. The ride up is half the reward.
+It's called 'in the Clouds' — is it cold up there?
Cooler than Chiang Mai, especially in cool-season mornings (Nov–Feb) when the village sits in real mist. Bring a light layer. We provide armoured jackets either way.
+Mae Kampong gets a lot of day-trippers. Will it feel touristy?
We arrive on the backroads, skip the busy entry routes, and time our café and waterfall stops away from the tour-bus rush. On two wheels you see the village the way locals do — slow, scenic, calm.
+Is the village market a quick photo stop or a proper part of the day?
Proper part. We give you real time at the market — for the handmade snacks, the tea-and-coffee tasting, and a wander through the village before lunch. It's not a five-minute drive-by.
+What's the food like?
Lunch in or near the village — usually a small family-run spot with views over the valley. All meals included.
+Can you customize the tour?
